Fillers are for volume replacement and are comprised of hyaluronic acid, similar to what we make in our own skin. Gem aesthetics and wellness carries the restylane line of fillers, including restylane kysse ® and restylane lyft ®, defyne ®, refyne ®, restylane ® and contour ®. Fillers are injected with small needles or through flexible tip cannulas. The type of filler used depends on the area of the face it is to be injected, as well as the patient’s own anatomy and aesthetic outcomes.

Lips filler doesn’t have to be obvious or fake. I strive for a very natural approach replacing lost volume or subtle plumping.

Cheeks are often the first place we need to address as we age. Volume loss to fat pads and underlying bone structure in the cheeks often presents as hollow “tired” appearing undereyes, pre-jowls, and smile folds (nasolabial lines). We will typically start with one treatment although depending on volume lost, two treatments are sometimes required.

Platelet Rich Fibrin Filler (PRF)

Natural filler is made from your own growth factors and healing cells. Similar to prp, prf (platelet rich fibrin) contains more growth factors and a fibrin matrix for a slower release of these factors with clinically superior outcomes. It is derived from a simple blood draw and spun down in the centrifuge to make a filler-like gel. Prf filler is injected with flexible-tip cannulas or small needles. It is often recommended to have two treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results. Results of volume replacement or filler effects can last up to 3 months, however, the slow release of growth factors improves skin over time. Great for those who would like an all-natural alternative to fillers.

*Prices subject to change with multiple injection areas and whether it is added to filler.

Wrinkle Relaxers

Neuromodulators such as Botox ®, Xeomin ®, and Dysport ® help to soften lines which may have already formed and prevent future wrinkles. These are administered through simple injections. Treatment lasts 3-4 months, with best results seen with consistent use. Dosage is based on muscle activity, but as a rule of thumb, your dosage or units are often similar to your age.

Treatment Areas

Wrinkle relaxers can be used to soften the wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, the “11’s”, as well as lower face wrinkles, “tech neck”, roasacea, TMJ, and hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating).

Biostimulators are a more natural approach to injectables that maintain the youthful appearance of our skin. When biostimulators are injected they work with your own body to help produce more collagen. Collagen is important for keeping our skin plump and wrinkle free. They are different from hyaluronic acid fillers which typically “fill” an area and provide immediate gratification. Because biostimulators work with your own body to produce collagen, this process can take 6-8 weeks to start seeing results. Depending on your age, quality of skin, healthy history, and degree of volume loss, a series of 3-5 treatments is typically needed to achieve best results. However, once a series is completed, results can last anywhere from 1-3 years. Many patients come back for a single maintenance treatment to maintain results.

The two most common and well studied biostimulators in the US are Sculptra ® and Radiesse ®. Both stimulate collagen production in different ways and sometimes work better in different parts of the body. Your provider can help you determine which will work best for you.

Radiesse ®

Woman's neck comparison before and after Sculptra treatmentRadiesse is an injectable biostimulator made of calcium hydroxyapatite. It has been used in medicine since the 1960’s in dentistry and orthopedics and helped to stimulate bone. It was later found that it also stimulated the production of collagen. Unlike Sculptra, the particles in Radiesse do not cause an inflammatory reaction, but instead sit suspended as a scaffolding in the tissue to help produce more collagen.

Sculptra ®

Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator made of Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA). PLLA is made of the same material as dissolvable sutures or stitches and it helps your body produce more collagen through an inflammatory process. After it is injected, Sculptra triggers the immune system to produce fibroblasts which surround the PLLA. This process results in collagen production under the skin which improves the appearance of lines and wrinkles. A series of 3-5 Sculptra treatments may be needed to achieve best results but these can last 2-3 years.
