Before & After

Frequently Asked Questions

What is BBL?

BBL stands for Broad Band Light. It is a newer version of IPL or Intense Pulse Light. BBL is NOT a laser, it is actually light therapy or a “photo facial”. BBL is used to address pigments in the skin such as sun spots, age spots, broken capillaries, rosacea, and cherry angiomas.

Does BBL reverse the aging of the skin?

Yes! Sciton (R) BBL was studied at Stanford University (link) where it was proven to reverse the aging of our cellular DNA. Patients had an average of 3 BBL treatments per year and their skin began to behave like younger skin.

What should I do to prepare for my BBL?

Come with clean skin. It is ok to continue your retinol up until your appointment, but you may be asked to stop after your treatment for a few days. Please avoid sun exposure, tanning, or sunless tanner for two weeks prior. Avoid any medications known to increase photo sensitivity.

Is everyone a candidate for BBL?

No. Some patients with hyperpigmentation disorders, such as melasma, may not be a good candidate for BBL. Patients with very dark skin tones may also not be a candidate. It is best to schedule a consult so you can discuss with your provider.

Is there any “downtime” with BBL?

For most patients, no. Some patients with a lot of vascularity, such as rosacea, may experience more redness and swelling. In rare circumstances patients can get bruising. When treating pigments such as brown spots, these will darken over a few days and then microscopically fade.

Does laser treatment hurt?

Most patients describe laser treatments as a mild snapping or warming sensation. To ensure your comfort, we apply a numbing cream before the procedure, which significantly reduces any discomfort. After treatment, you may experience mild redness or sensitivity, similar to a mild sunburn, but this typically subsides within a few hours to a couple of days.
